TROY awards director for support for University libraries

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) —Troy University recently honored a director who has dedicated his career to helping literature thrive.

Director of Wiregrass Archives and History Professor Dr. Martin Olliff has spent countless hours among literature and teaching history to Troy University students. Tuesday, he received the University Libraries’ Book Token Award.

“I was thrilled,” said Dean of University Libraries Christopher Shaffer. “Not only is Martin a colleague, he’s a very good friend. We’ve known each other about 20 years now. Back when I had hair and his wasn’t grey when he met me.”

The Book Token Award is given annually to a faculty member who has shown exceptional support for the University Libraries.

“I’m flattered and thrilled as I’ve known other recipients of this award, so I am in what you would call August Company,” Olliff said. “Everyone who has received this award before me has more than earned it and is more than worth it. I’m happy the committee has chosen me to be a part of that group.”

Olliff says his next chapter will most likely be retirement.
