Sarah Jane Houston crowned Miss Troy University 2024

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — The Miss Troy University crown has passed to a new queen.

Thursday night, seven contestants competed for the title of Miss Troy University. This year’s contestants were Grace Shellhouse, Ashlyn Simpson, Reanna Thompson, Gracie Beth Scrushy, Taylor Jones, Sarah Jane Houston and Laney Kelley.

During the competition, contestants answered on-stage questions, featured their various talents, and demonstrated their pageant walks.

“It’s really exciting,” said Assistant Director of Miss Troy University, KeLeigh Pritchett. “We do put a lot of sweat, equity and hard work into this pageant. We want it to be successful. We want the contestants to feel comfortable. We want to represent TROY well and I feel that that happened. So, it’s a relief to have it over, just to know that it went well but we had a really good time.”

“Today was actually such an incredible day,” Houston said. “Up into the competition, I’ve been so nervous but today I prayed for peace. I asked for God to guide every step I take and make sure that every word that comes out of my mouth has a purpose. I’m so excited that those prayers were answered and I’m lucky enough to be standing here as Miss Troy University.”

“I definitely know how Sarah Jane feels right now. She is feeling all of the excitement,” said Miss Troy University 2023 Abigail Grantham. “She’s about to go to Miss Alabama and represent Troy University for a year. That’s the best feeling ever. So, good luck to Sarah Jane and Miss Alabama. I love her, and I’ve known her for a few years now, and I’m so proud of her.”

“I feel wonderful about all of the contestants and the program itself,” said Troy University Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr. “I greatly appreciate those who worked so hard to put it on, the judges and Mrs. Gina Harper, the field representative for Miss Alabama. I think that the young lady that won is just beautiful and talented, but all of them were.”

Sarah Jane Houston will now begin preparations for Miss Alabama. She will also start participating in community and University service projects.
