TPD honors fallen officers during memorial ceremony

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — May 12th through the 18th marked this year’s National Police Officers’ Memorial Week, a time when law enforcement from around the wiregrass band together in memory of their fallen officers.

Wednesday, the Troy Police Department (TPD) held its 46th Annual Police Memorial Day Ceremony in honor of 2024 National Police Week.

“The purpose behind this week is to remember all of those that have lost their lives serving communities,” said Deputy Chief of Operations Danny Barron. “We’re going to be honoring Troy and Pike County’s fallen officers.”

During the ceremony, Troy Mayor Jason Reeves expressed his gratitude for law enforcement members, and honored both fallen officers and those who are currently serving. A Roll Call of Honor was given, and flowers were also laid upon TPD’s memorial that honors its own fallen officers.

“Don’t forget what our officers do day in and day out,” Barron said. Do not forget what officers that have gone on before us that have lost their lives in the line of duty. Don’t forget the great sacrifice that that they made.

The Bible teaches us, in John, greater love hath no man than to lay down his life for his for his friend. Our officers paid that ultimate sacrifice and and that’s something that I would certainly want our citizens to to never forget.”
