TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISON) — Troy Volleyball had a bit of an upset when going against Cal Poly in Trojan Area, ending the game 3-0.
This was the Trojans Home Opener of the 2024 season.
“Cal-Poly is a really good team,” said Head Coach Josh Lauer. “The schedule is built so that we play really good teams.
Kudos to them, they came out really sharp from the middle, I think what we learned is that when our serving’s really tough, I think we can be really, really dynamite. I thought we passed well today, we didn’t take care of the end of the set the way that wanted to, that is something we got to get back in the gym and spend a little time on.”
Amiah Butler led with 16 kills, with only 2 errors. Janelle Stuempfig led the team with 16 passing (setting), with 19 assists. However, that wasn’t enough compared to the Mustangs, which lead in kills, assists and services aces.

“Amiah’s been playing really, really well,” Lauer said. “I think for her, what she did is she put together a full match, she’s been in a situation in the last few matches where she’s been a little stretchy, but I thought she was really consistent today.”
Despite of the loss, fans joined the team on the court for Fan Day.
“All in all, I am excited about where we are going forward, I think we can learn a lot from you know this loss, and as long as we learn from this loss, then good things will continue to happen.”
The Trojans move to 0-1 all-time against Cal-Poly.
The Trojans will take on The Citadel on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. A full schedule can be found here.
