TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Troy’s volleyball team opened up the Trojan Invitational against The Citadel in Trojan Arena.
The Trojans made quick work of the Bulldogs, fully sweeping them 3-0. Head Coach Josh Lauer spoke about practices, what they’ve been targeting and how the results are starting to show on the court.
“I thought that we could, each day, we need to get a little bit better and prepare, and I think that they really focused in practice,” Lauer. “What I think one of the big things coming out of last week was that we needed to get better with our surface pressure and our defensive execution and intensity, and I think that in both matches this week so far, they’ve really taken to that.”

In all three sets, Amiah Butler led the team with a match high 16 kills. This is Butler’s third consecutive match leading the team in kills. Along with Butler, Tori Hester performed 13 kills, continuing her double-figure kills streak of the 2024-2025 season.
“I feel super grateful,” Butler said. “We have amazing setters to provide amazing balls everywhere. I just put my head down and take a high rip and just hope for the best. Just having fun and going after balls and defense. I feel like if we just put more pressure and more effort into taking swings and just getting them high, we’ll do great, cause after this match we just had everything going, just need to do it again.”
Overall, the Trojans led the Bulldogs in kills, assists, service aces and digs. This is also the Trojans’ second consecutive sweep after beating the Alabama State Hornets 3-0 Tuesday. Troy’s volleyball team moves to 2-0 all-time against The Citadel.
