TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — This past Thursday, Troy’s accounting honor society, Beta Alpha Psi, hosted a lecture on artificial intelligence (AI).
Tu Thi Minh To, a lecturer in the William H. Carr School of Accountancy, led the conversation and discussed how AI could be utilized in the classroom.
“I think that AI is going to be a great tool that can enhance student’s learning experience,” said To. It’s a great tool that can help them with their learning process. Students don’t have access to professors all the time, but they do have access to AI.”
Students also shared their input on how AI should be used in the classroom.

“I think using AI should be encouraged, as long as it’s used in the correct way,” said accounting major Morgan Riley. “If it’s used in a non-credible way, like cheating, I really think it could hurt students.
“There are good ways for students to use AI,” To said. “Students can use AI to help them understand a concept. Another great use of AI would be for students to use it to find real examples to help them understand a topic.”
Although AI could help students learn, some worry that it will have the opposite effect.
“There are some caveats with using AI, for example, the biggest one is plagiarism,” To stated.
Students are still expected to uphold Troy University’s standards of academic integrity, even when using AI. Beta Alpha Psi plans to hold more lectures on artificial intelligence in the future. To learn when more lectures will be held, students are encouraged to follow Troy SOA on Instagram.
