TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Troy Women’s Basketball is welcoming a new player who traveled across the ocean to be in Trojan Territory.
Those challenges can be especially hard for international player in sports. Ashley Baez, a senior guard, transferred to Troy University from Florida Gulf Coast University. During her time at her previous school, Baez averaged 4.1 points, 0.9 rebounds, 0.4 assists.
Baez looks to add scrappy defensive play to an already revitalized roster. She says her biggest adjustment since coming to Troy has been the pace of play.
“I feel like I have to pick up things a lot more quickly here,” Baez said. “The game is so much more faster pace so I feel as if I have to react quicker”.

Baez says her primary motivation for coming to America to play ball was her parents.
“I would say my personal motivation was my parents. Them pushing me for being the best player I can be motivates me every day.”
Baez says one of her goals for the upcoming season is to win a championship and make an all conference selection to a Sunbelt Conference team. You can catch Baez and the rest of the women’s basketball team in action when they face Buffalo on Monday, Nov. 4 in Buffalo, New York.
