Troy Women’s Basketball drops road game to Alabama

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Sunday afternoon Troy Women’s Basketball came up short in a 94-71 loss to 24th-ranked Alabama.

“Overall, I’m proud of the lessons we learned,” said head coach Chanda Rigby. “I hate that we didn’t come out with a win, but we learned a lot about ourselves today. I think we saw that we can compete and play with anybody.”

This is the number 24 team in the nation and at times we had them on the ropes and they were having to call timeouts, but we weren’t able to sustain it.”

Although the Crimson Tide controlled the first half, the Trojans came out of the locker room and outscored the Tide in the third quarter.

“They had an urgency to really want to win this game,” Rigby said. “They were pretty much firing each other up, trying to make adjustments. That was the message, we have had moments where we were really competing or maybe out playing them in moments so why not let’s put it together and let’s try to go win this game.”

Senior guard Ashley Baez led the charge for the Trojans, shooting 5-7 as well as a perfect 4-4 behind the arc for 14 points.

“I was just really confident in myself,” Baez told TrojanVision. “I really just focused on making my shots so that was something that helped me.”

“I know we’ll be watching the game,” Rigby said. “Coach Grace is through with the scout report up to that game and on the way home she’ll send that to me, and I’ll start going over it then.”

Thursday the Trojans will head to Chattanooga to take on the UT Chattanooga Mocs.
