Department changes at Troy University brings new opportunities for students

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Several changes are now happening at TROY’s College of Arts and Sciences.

“We are actually going to be having some division within the college” said departmental secretary Tanya Taylor. “We’re going to be splitting off into three different sections that are moving to the College of Education. Also College of communication and Fine Arts, we are going to be instituting a new bachelors of engineering program.”

These changes have surprised some students and faculty.

“I think change is scary,” said student Morgan Todd. “I just wish we would have known beforehand that my major was getting changed into the education department.”

Although change can bring challenges, it can also bring opportunity.

“Seeing that there is a new program that Troy has never offered and then now to the point to where it’s actually going to be offered and it’s a totally new direction than what we have done in the past,” said Interim Associate Dean of Academics and Administration Kenneth Roblee. “It will help us recruit new students that may have not chose Troy.”

The changes come as Troy University reorganizes and renames some of its programs and colleges. The name changes are expected to go into effect in fall 2025.
