TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — The Office of Career Services is working to help students choose their majors.
Each Wednesday, the office hosts sessions covering a variety of topics designed to prepare students for life after college. These workshops include guidance on networking, building a LinkedIn profile, interviewing skills, and even choosing the right major.
“The whole reason we are here is from freshman to senior year,” Program Advisor Jen Holbert said. “We want to give resources and be a help for students ultimately to be employed one day. So every week we have been doing different topics from networking to how to have a LinkedIn, to how to have a good interview.
“Today was ‘how do I find my major,’ and so we are doing all these things to really help students to learn and grow and be a resource for them in college to eventually be launched from Troy university and become employed.”

During a recent workshop, students participated in exercises to help identify what majors align with their personalities. Career Services also introduced tools and resources to help students explore career paths and stay on track for success.
“I learned there are so many websites you can go to find what majors you want tor what personality you have to find the major, then find the job,” freshman Madison Young said. “I would recommend that especially for people that come into college knowing what they want to do and end up changing their major and feeling lost.
“I also learned we have a lot of resources for people that are not decided.”
The workshops are open to all students, including freshmen who may still be deciding on a major. Some attendees use the sessions to confirm they are on the right path.
“We did the self-assessment and we had to add up points,” high school student Chaedon Laird said. “The more points we had that led to the colors we got, which showed us what we should most likely major in and my major was computer science.”
The Office of Career Services encourages students at all stages of their college journey to attend the weekly workshops and take advantage of the available resources.
