TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Thursday Troy’s Career Services held a part-time job fair, giving students a chance to check out different opportunities.
“Several students come by our office during the first semester of class looking for part-time employment,” said Arminda McKee, Career Services Director. “For several years, we would direct them to different places, but we had the idea to create an event specifically to meet that need.”
One student told TrojanVision he appreciated the university’s assistance in his search for a job.
“I mean, it’s pretty awesome,” said Benedict Gil, freshman. “I feel like a lot of colleges like wouldn’t have as many opportunities as this.

“Being able to like just talk to people and then like get to know them and if they like you, you could possibly get a job.”
Many students say it is important to have a job while in college to help them stay afloat.
‘They’re going to realize that I need some supplemental income to kind of help me navigate college and to afford the things that I need to to continue,” said McKee. “There has to be a balance.
“We want academics to come first, certainly, which is why we advertise this event as an opportunity for students to find employment around their schedules.”
Companies like Troy Parks and Recreation and the Trojan football recruiting team were looking for employees. One company in particular was looking for students that could travel and tango.
“I think just having some confidence and coming to events like this, the job fair where you can go and interact with other people,” said Anne-Marie Jones of Inspire National Dance Competition. “Have that confidence to look them in the eye, give them a firm handshake and ask questions.
“We love when you ask questions. It really shows us that you’re interested. It shows us that you really want to know more about our company and more about what we do.”
