TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Troy lost to Southern Miss in overtime, 13-10 in this week’s College Football 27 simulation.
Troy started the scoring in the first quarter. After an interception by Bryce Steele, the Trojans would kick one through the uprights to take the early lead, 3-0.
Southern Miss would answer back in the second. After quarterback Ethan Hampton found wide receiver Preston Kilgore for a 40 yard reception, the Golden Eagles would kick a field goal to tied the game, 3-3.
In the second half, Troy would be close to scoring, but the Trojans would fumble the ball. Southern Miss safety Laquan Robinson would pick up the fumble and return it for a touchdown to make the score 10-3.
Troy would answer back on the next drive with their own touchdown when quarterback Goose Crowder would run it in from four yards out to tie the game, 10-10, and force overtime.
The Trojans would start with the ball in overtime. On a 44-yard field goal attempt, the Golden Eagles would block the kick. Because of the blocked kick, Southern Miss would kick a 35-yard field goal and win the simulation, 13-10.
Robinson would be player of the game, as he scored the lone touchdown for the Golden Eagles. On offense, Hampton would have 11 completions on 21 attempts for 137 yards, with Kilgore having 4 of those catches for 64 yards. Two Eagles would end the game with over 20 rushing yards, as Robert Briggs and Jamarice Wilder would run for 23 and 22 respectively.
Crowder would have 18 completions on 23 attempts and 186 yards passing, as well as have the rushing touchdown. Mojo Dortch would have 3 catches for 79 yards, while Howard Kinchen would have 6 catches for 56 yards. Running back Gavin Griffin would have 12 rushes for 54 yards, the most for the Trojans in the contest.
The Trojans and Golden Eagles face off in real life Tuesday at 7 p.m. inside Veterans Memorial Stadium.
