Dr. Jason Sulliman, Associate Professor of Trombone in the John M. Long School of Music, will be busy representing Troy University at the 2025 International Trombone Festival held in London, Ontario, Canada.
This will be his fourth time presenting research on brass pedagogy at the international festival while teaching at Troy University. Dr. Sulliman will also be performing “Nightcall,” composed by colleague Dr. Traci Mendel, as part of a showcase of performing artists from all over the world.
“ITF is the major event for the world of trombone, and I am thrilled to share a great composition written by Dr. Mendel to an international audience of trombone enthusiasts. Her work captures so much depth while remaining highly accessible for collegiate trombonists” said Sulliman, who premiered Mendel’s ‘Nightcall’ at Troy University in 2019.
In addition to performing and presenting, Dr. Sulliman, a bass trombone specialist, will be one of the judges for the George Roberts Bass Trombone competition held at the festival. The International Trombone Festival has a long history of celebrating the talented youth of the world through youth competitions, and Sulliman will be judging the live round of finalists.
“The George Roberts Competition honors outstanding musicianship of bass trombonists who are 20 years old or younger, and students from all over the world submit recordings for consideration. The finalists play a live round at the festival, and the list of past winners is a ‘who’s who’ of the great professionals of today. It will be a real treat to be a part of their journey.”
