Eleven TROY student films to be showcased at Alabama Film Week

The Saturday session will feature films from TROY's YellowHammer Film Festival.

On April 20, 11 Troy University student short films will be featured in Birmingham at Sidewalk’s annual “Alabama Film Week” event that calls attention to films made in or by Alabama filmmakers.

Specifically, this session of films highlights the creative works of TROY students who have seen success at the University’s YellowHammer Film Festival.

“We have been very fortunate to find success during our first three years, and a lot of that has to do with who we have networked with in the state’s film community,” said Professor Chris Stagl, who created the festival in 2021. “Sidewalk was one of the very first sponsors of our festival and have been extremely supportive in helping us grow. When they reached out and asked if we were interested in promoting student films by sharing a session block at this year’s Alabama Film Week with UNA’s George Lindsey Film Fest, another amazing partner of YellowHammer, we jumped at the opportunity to collaborate with both of them. To be in their collective spotlight is a huge honor for us.”

Jared Hester, design student and co-owner of Studio 207, a student-run multi-media design company, said he’s grateful for the opportunity to participate and network.

“It’s an amazing opportunity,” he said. “This is a great networking opportunity for all students involved, but specifically for those of us who just opened Studio 207. It’s a huge chance for us to network and meet a lot of other talented folks as we begin to wade into the industry.”

The films will be screened in the following order:

  • “When You’re Smiling” music video by Anna Gordon
  • “Paranoia” short film by Zack Pappanastos
