Students will welcome parents and family members to campus in an action-packed Parent and Family Weekend before the Trojans take on Florida A&M.
Festivities kick off on Friday night with a concert on The Quad from 8 p.m. – 12 a.m. featuring DJ Dr. Sam and The Sweet Youg ‘uns. The event is free and open to any who want to attend, said Dean of Students Herb Reeves, who is coordinating the concert, in connection with the Parents of TROY Association. Hours d’oeurves and non-alcoholic beverages are provided and a cash bar will be available.
Tables and chairs will be available, or guests may bring their own chairs and blankets.
The group will have a tailgate from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday for members. Guests may attend the tailgate on the Corner of University Avenue and Veterans Memorial Drive (near Pace Hall) for $20.
“We hope that every family enjoys their weekend here, and enjoys TROY’s beautiful campus,” said Ellie Cotton, the membership coordinator for the Parents of TROY Association. “We hope they feel comfortable leaving their students here.”
Several Greek organizations are also hosting their families during the weekend. Kappa Delta and Alpha Gamma Delta sororities are both having festivities, as are Farmhouse and Lambda Chi fraternities.
Troy Athletics announced a special Parent & Family Weekend ticket deal in conjunction with the Troy University Barnes & Noble Bookstore.
Parents and families of Troy University students who are coming to campus to celebrate the weekend with their children can take advantage of this special by visiting TroyTrojans.com/Promo and using the code FAMILY. For just $32, fans will get a lower reserved bleacher seat in sections 104, 116 or 118 and a voucher for a TROY hat.
“The goal is to bring students and families together and make sure they have a good time,” Cotton said. “A lot of parents who join are parents of freshmen, and it’s important that parents have a way to see the campus and how their students are doing.”
More information about the weekend and signing up to be a member can be found at the Parents of TROY Association page.
