POPulus to celebrate 10 years of success with Celebration Concert on Saturday

"A little bit of everything" will be performed during the Saturday evening event.

Ten years of history, growth and new material will be showcased during POPulus’ 10th Anniversary Celebration Concert on Saturday, April 16 at Troy University’s Claudia Crosby Theatre.

Co-director Kenny Beck said a “little bit of everything” is on the set list for the evening.

“We try to make sure that we hit all possible audiences and make sure there’s something in every performance for everybody,” he said. “There’ll be some new things, some things written by students and some great covers from over the years.”

POPulus is comprised of students in the music industry program where students are provided with real-world, educational experiences designed to prepare them for a professional career in music. The program has continually grown and excelled since its inception, and Beck said this occasion is the culmination of the last 10 years of hard work and success.

“At the end of the day, POPulus serves as a giant biosphere for the music industry program. These students write, record, produce, market and perform, so this represents the last 10 years of materials we’ve been able to put together,” he said. “It’s the next milestone. We’re looking forward to the next 10 years as we grow and the University grows. We’re excited to see what else is in store for our students.”

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and is expected to last just over an hour. The event is free and open to the public.

Music from POPulus is available online at iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby and multiple streaming sites around the globe. To coincide with the anniversary, the group will also release ENCORE, an album featuring past and present voices and some of their most popular hits, on Saturday.
