TROY’s Ali Rajabzadeh, Associate Director of the Western Region and U.S. Air Force veteran, has been named a 2024 Veteran Champion of the Year by Military Friendly, which publishes GI Jobs magazine.
He was one of 31 individuals who advocate on behalf of veterans in schools and programs nationwide to be named a Veteran Champion of the Year in Higher Education in recognition of going above and beyond in advocating for the advancement and success of student veterans in higher education.

“Receiving the 2024 Veteran Champion of the Year award is an incredible honor, both personally and for TROY students. Personally, it validates the hard work and dedication we’ve put into supporting our veterans and military-connected students,” Rajabzadeh said. “It’s a recognition of the meaningful impact that these efforts have had on the lives of those who have served.”
Rajabzadeh said the award went beyond the personal, however, by sending a clear message to TROY’s military-affiliated students.
“This award signifies our continued commitment to providing them with the resources, opportunities, and support they need to succeed academically and professionally. It’s a reminder that we value their service and are dedicated to creating an inclusive, empowering environment where they can thrive. This recognition further strengthens our resolve to continue championing veteran education and ensuring that TROY remains a top choice for those who have served,” he said.
He, and other champions, were featured in the October issue of G.I. Jobs, available both in print and digital formats.
“These champions have been selected for their unwavering dedication to creating and nurturing sustainable services and programs that support veterans’ success in higher education,” said Dan Fazio, awards program manager. “They frequently serve as mentors and work tirelessly to address the unique needs of student veterans.”
Rajabzadeh is based in San Antonio, TX, home to one of the nation’s largest domestic military installations, Joint Base San Antonio which is comprised of Fort Sam Houston, Randolph Air Force Base and Lackland Air Force Base.
