Troy University gymnastics club wins second straight regional championship

In its second year, the gymnastics club team has won two straight regional championships.

In its second year, the gymnastics club team has won two straight regional championships.

Troy University’s student-led gymnastics team recently won its second National Athletic Association of Intercollegiate Gymnastic Club’s (NAIGC) Southeast Regional Championship, competing against SEC powerhouses like the universities of Georgia, Florida and Tennessee.

With a final team score of 111.7, head coach and Club President Maren Settle said it was a hard-fought victory.

“This victory wasn’t easy, and the final scores were only separated by tenths of points, but our girls were able to bring home another championship to our TROY family!” she said.

Amy Treloar won first place in the all-around, vault and uneven bars competitions, and Hannah Cox also earned first place on the balance beam with score of 9.65. Kayla Burell and Kendall Rice also placed in the individual competition.

Settle, a junior sports management major from Atlanta, Georgia, formed the club in Fall 2023. Just a few months later in March 2024, the team won the “Chomp the Swamp” Southeast Regional competition hosted by the University of Florida with a score of 107.

To win back-to-back regional championships in the first two years of operation is a testament to the gymnasts’ hard work and dedication, Settle said, and has set a standard of excellence to continue to work toward.

“Winning the NAIGC Southeast Regional Championship once is an extraordinary feat, but winning it back-to-back in the first two years of competition is nothing short of historic,” she said. “The significance of winning consecutive regional titles cannot be overstated. It speaks to the team’s hard work, unity and vision. But these victories aren’t just about scores—they represent our growth, perseverance, and belief in one another. The positive, family atmosphere our team has created truly is a testament to the team’s success. Without it, we simply would not be where we are today.”

The TROY gymnastics team is open to all students regardless of gymnastics experience. Looking forward to the 2026 season, Settle said their goal is to take things to the next level.

“The future looks bright for TROY gymnastics with a roster full of talent that continues to grow, a championship-winning culture and a growing fan base,” she said. “Our goal for next season is to compete at Nationals in Birmingham, Alabama, where they’ll face the best from across the country.”

The team will be hosting the second annual Trojan Tribute Showcase in late March at United Gymstars and Cheer where they will share their championship-winning routines with Trojan Nation and receive their 2025 championship rings.
