Women’s Basketball beats Arkansas State in nail-biter game

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — As the Trojans took the court to defend their seven game win streak, the women’s basketball team remained focused on the ultimate goal.

Saturday the Red Wolves of Arkansas State came to town to take on the Trojans. The Red Wolves came to spoil to the seven game win streak that the Trojans were on, but instead were greeted by the largest crowd in Troy Women’s Basketball history.

The game also featured a historic night from Tai’sheka Porchia who helped the Trojans pick up the win 91-84.

“This is one of my favorite nights ever to play in Trojan Arena,” said Head Coach Chanda Rigby. “The crowd was amazing. It was not the fact that it was a big crowd but how loud they were. When we were down and we took the lead, it just reverberates through me the yelling and the happy faces that were all around Trojan Arena. It really gave us energy and we want to thank everybody who came out and supported us.”

Although Rigby is the head coach, she gave all the credit to her Trojans.

“It’s really about the heart of the players and them refusing to lose because look at our last game, four of our five starters that score a lot of points for us only had seven baskets in that game but the team found a way to win. To string together that many in the way that they have it is about the heart of the players that are in those Trojan uniforms. Just trying to win one game at a time and improve on every win, improve on them so we can accomplish our ultimate goal of winning another Sun Belt Championship and getting back to the NCAA Tournament because we feel like with this team we can make a run in that tournament.”

The Trojans’ next game will be Thursday, Feb. 1 at the University of Louisiana at Monroe against the Warhawks.
