TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Despite its dominant kills throughout the matchup, Troy Volleyball fell to App State in a five-set battle.
“We didn’t cash it in after the first set, since we came out flat in the first set,” said head coach Josh Lauer. “We kind of battled through there. Bottom line is that we were not consistent enough and didn’t get enough contribution across the board to kind of match App State’s balance and consistency.”
Although the Mountaineers distributed the ball well and had a more balanced offense throughout each set, the Trojans managed to fight back, and claim set 2 and 4.
“If we can get a little bit more contribution and consistency, it’ll help all and be more successful,” Lauer said. “There’s no excuses to that. Everybody is tired here towards the end of the season on every team, so we have to find a way to be locked in from the get-go.”

As the Trojans look toward their second meet with App State in this pair of matches, the Trojans intend to continue to play hard for one another and not to give up on each other.
“When more people score, it’s good for the energy, vibe and momentum,” Lauer said. “The other thing is that we just need to be more consistent with our serve pressure. I think that our serve pressure at times was really good and it kind of got them out of their middle runs, which was good for us. So, that’s something that we have to continue to be consistent with as well.”
Outside hitter Tori Hester was honored before the match for setting the program record of kills, recording a season-high of 35 kills.
