TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Business may be slowing down soon for local shops, restaurants and services as students finish out the semester and go home for the summer.
Whether it’s a weekend hangout spot, your favorite place to grab a bite to eat or whatever coffee shop you prefer to study at, Troy students get a lot out of the businesses downtown on the square. But, when the students go home for the summer, taking all of their money and time with them, the businesses feel the change in atmosphere and attendance.
According to Adam Vinson, the owner of Fuse Coffee, what is usually a busy, bustling town turns low-key and quiet for a few months.

“The people aren’t here,” Vinson said. “The population is gone so you can actually look out onto the square and see that the cars aren’t there and you know, kind of, what your day is going to be like.
“You just have to grin and bear it.”
It’s not just grinning and bearing though, Vinson adapts his business to better fit the demand and the level business at the less populous times of the year.
“We cut our hours so we’re normally open seven to seven but any time there’s a student holiday like spring break, christmas, thanksgiving, or even summer, we start closing at five,” Vinson said.
The last day of exams this semester is May 12 and graduation will take place on May 15-16. Most of the students will be gone soon after.
