Troy University’s Department of Theatre and Dance will present, “Art in Motion: Twisted Tales,” beginning October 10 through October 13 in the Trojan Center Theatre. This will mark the start of the 2024-2025 production season for the department.
“Art in Motion,” is an annual student-led production that encourages collaboration between the art of dance and other art forms. This year’s production will feature classic fables, folktales and fairytales, all with a twist.
It will also feature original choreography and direction by TROY Bachelor of Fine Arts students, Madison Alward, Jasmin Aranda, Katie Bozeman, Ceara Calton, Melody Chen, Gabby Deaton, Alina Dunn-Sullivan, Malachi Leakes, Olivia Wiley and Kelsie Williams.
For the 2024-2025 production season, The Department of Theatre and Dance plans to look through the lens of levity, discovery, and togetherness.
“We’ve got some fun and comedy in the shows and approaches, we’re focusing on creating and making theatre and dance in new ways,” said Tori Lee Averett, Associate Dean for the College of Communications and Fine Arts. “We’re always celebrating the work we do together in close collaboration. This year is an exciting and innovative year for our department. I believe audiences will be surprised and delighted with some of our creative approaches to productions and shows.”
This production season will feature other surprises such as:
- “The Old Man and The Old Moon,” “Tempo” and “The Music Man” will be free of charge to Alabama schools and studios who would like to bring their students to enjoy the productions.
- “The Old Man and the Old Moon” will make creative use of the Trojan Center Theatre. This means that there will be a limited number of seats, so make sure to get your tickets early.
- “Our Lady of 7-Eleven”is a new original musical by the department’s own Tommy Newman. It is being workshopped with TROY students as the premiere company, and Co-writer Devanand Janki will be in residence with the department in November.
- “The Music Man” will be performed outdoors in the Janice Hawkins Cultural Arts Park Amphitheater and will feature the Troy University Symphony Band.
