TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Accounting students met future employers at the Sorrell College of Business‘ (SCOB) 33rd Accountancy Day
Thursday Troy University hosted Accountancy Day, which allows students to meet potential future employers.
“We have 30 to 35 different organizations, accounting firms, governmental agencies, and different types of companies come and recruit our accounting majors,” Dr. Josh McGowan, Director of the College of Accountancy said. “Most of the students here are either looking for internships or looking for full-time jobs, and this is a lot of times the first connection they have had with these individuals” Dr. McGowan explained.

Accounting is not always about the numbers. McGowan explained networking is vital.
“Networking is a lot of the value of being in college. To meet people, shake hands, and start building those relationships. Even if you say you don’t go to work for one of these companies here, you never know, five years down the road, they might be looking for a CFO or controller having that relationship is going to benefit you.”
For the firms, balance books are important but the future of business lies in the soon-to-be accountants.
“To be an accountant you must understand every aspect of business,” said Certified Public Accountant and Troy Alumnus Micah Murphy. “It’s not just the numbers. To be here is awesome, to get to meet the students, to know more of where they’re at, and get to evaluate them potentially for them to come work for our firm. I think Troy has got some great students and a great program here and I enjoyed it I think that’s where these people can make that step.”.
After meeting the firms, students received awards and scholarships.
