TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — One organization’s goal is to spread breast cancer awareness. The method? Making bracelets.
Monday night, many people went to the Math and Science building for Troy University Colleges Against Cancer (CAC) first official meeting of the semester. Colleges Against Cancer had previously been an organization on campus, but became defunct in 2024. A previous member, Hannah Emerson, and her classmate, Amber Minyard, decided to reform the group this semester.
“I did it when I was a freshman, and I was like, ‘This is such a good idea. This is a great club to have in Troy,’ and then it just disappeared one day, and I was like, we need to bring this back,” Emerson told TrojanVision.
Group members are excited about the interest that colleges against cancer has had from students.
“I am really happy about it,” Minyard said. “I think it has been extremely successful, and I think our turnout tonight says more than I can with my words.”

During the meeting, participants made friendship bracelets and keychains to advocate for breast cancer awareness and to get to know group members. The organization plans to sell the keychains inside the Trojan Center to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
“Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the United States and being able to fund raise for it and find a cure for it and advocating for the cause it’s prevalent in almost every woman that you know,” Emerson said.
Members also elected leadership positions such as vice president. Grayson Bogue told Trojan Vision why he ran for vice president in the first place.
“I’m really passionate about healthcare. I’m a biomedical sciences major and one day I hope to help people as much as I am in my undergraduate degree.”
Students can contact Colleges Against Cancer via its Instagram page for more information. Colleges Against Cancer will be selling bracelets at the Trojan Center on October 28th uh for $5.
