TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Trojan Outreach is providing resources for students in an effort to end intimate partner violence.
According to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, over one in three women and one in four men in the United States have experienced domestic violence.
It has also been reported by the National Domestic Violence hotline that 38% of college students say they don’t know how to get help if they are the victim of domestic abuse.
That’s why Trojan Outreach provided several resources in the case of an abusive relationship.
“There is a Domestic Violence hotline that you can contact,” said Peer Educator Sadie Tyson. “We have all that information here; it’s online also. There’s also a sexual assault hotline if you need that, and then if you’re in imminent danger, contact 911.”

Peer educators also underscored the importance of speaking up if someone is in an abusive relationship. Members gave out buttons that say “Break the Silence, Stop the Violence.”
“We do want people to know that domestic violence is more common than people think, and it’s not always apparent to everybody,” said Tyson. “So if you do need help, do not fear to reach out.”
Trojan Outreach hopes to reassure victims of domestic violence that they are not alone and that reaching out for help could be life-saving.
If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, contact the Domestic Violence Hotline at (800) 799-7233 or Trojan Outreach at (334) 808-6806.
