Trojans prioritize their mental health during midterm season

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — As students work their way through the middle of the semester, and oftentimes midterms, some may be looking for ways to improve their mental health.

The stress of midterm season is falling on students yet again. During this time of the semester, students become overwhelmed with heavy workloads and preparation for midterms.

Although students should prioritize their academic success, mental health is also important to take care of.

Trojan Outreach Peer Educator Sam Lawson encourages students to take advantage of some of the resources they have to offer students.

“Some stress relief tips we have are going on a walk or just talking to someone, friends, family, really anyone,” Lawson said. “Having quiet time, putting your phone down, maybe reading a book I know no one really likes to read nowadays but I mean just kind of getting away from your phone and just getting away from everything.”

Although students are taking the time to focus on achieving midterms and excelling in their classes, they are also taking time for themselves.

“It reminds me that classes are not all that’s going on, and so I can kind of you know chill out,” said Kayden Blevins, a freshman at Troy. “Classes aren’t the end all be all. You have to kind of zoom out sometimes instead of being so focused in.”

Students emphasized the importance of maintaining their mental clarity. Danyael Vera shared one of his favorite ways to relieve the stress of the midterm season.

“Relax, just relax,” Vera said. “Take some time for yourself. One of the ways I do is usually just play through a variety of games and that usually just helps me cool off for a bit.”
