High School students learn to be American Patriots

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — What does is take to build the leaders of tomorrow? Rising high school juniors and seniors found out at the servant leadership lessons hosted by this year’s Trojan Patriot Academy.

“Today’s a big day for the Trojan Patriot Academy, as we have four dynamic sessions going on,” stated Dr. Jeff Scott, coordinator of civic engagement. “We have Dr Bennet and Dr Bush doing various leadership elements, working with the students in an engaging manner about how to tie leadership into personal success.

“We also have the congressional medal of honor society with us talking about character development, and how that applies to leadership not only at a university level, not only at a business level, but a personal level.”

According to Scott, leadership doesn’t always start with others.

“It’s really important because sometimes we think about leadership only at the bigger level, but leadership is really at every level. One of the most important things you can do as a person is learn how to lead yourself.”

Eavie Kate Lindsey, a chaperone, said she is filled with hope after watching her colony complete the program.

“I’ve honestly learned so much, and seeing how much the kids in my colony have learned to lead and take initiative is just amazing to me,” Lindsey said. “I love to see the future of what people younger than me looks like, and it just looks so bright.

“I’m so excited.””

The Trojan Patriot Academy left Troy on June 8 to continue its learning experience at the American Village in Montevallo. The program concluded on June 12.
