TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — One of the most popular study spots on Troy’s campus has gotten upgrades.

This summer, the Troy campus library brought in new pieces meant to help students research and study more comfortably.

“We’ve got three new pieces of furniture that I am excited about,” stated Dr. Chris Shaffer, Dean of Library Services. “One of them is like a telephone booth, and it’s called a shush booth.

“You will check that out at the desk, and it’s like an individual study room. We’ve also got two of these, and they are called a ‘nook’. When you get inside, the furniture is actually designed so that it absorbs the sound.”

The library isn’t done yet. Shaffer says more upgrades are on the way.

“Supposedly this year we are going to allow people to print from their laptops, and that’s going to be easier for the students, but it’s also going to allow me to clear some space and allow me to have some space for the furniture that students will like.”

Some students have already gotten to use the new features.

“It’s a good way to get resources for people who are not able to afford them, and it gives a quiet space outside of campus,” said Atlas Barr, a sophomore on campus. “There’s not many places you can go on campus during the day that are not full of chitter chatter.

“You come here and you have a bunch of cozy places to sit, all the resources you need, power, computers if you need them and quiet.”

In addition to the new features, the library also has several upcoming events on its schedule. This fall will feature exhibits dedicated to Holocaust survivors, the “Many Voices, One Nation: Voices of Dale County in the Wiregrass,” and an author talk during International Education Week.
