TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Downtown Troy is expecting a bit more buzz this summer, as incoming students with IMPACT have been given meal vouchers for participating locations.
Those locations include Momma Goldberg’s, Rike’s Burgers and Brew, The Corner, Moe’s and more. This summer marks the second year the voucher program has been underway.
The IMPACT meal vouchers, equivalent to around $15, are thanks to a partnership between between Troy University, Downtown Troy and the Pike County Chamber of Commerce.

During the summer, many patrons of Troy businesses, Troy University students, are no longer in Troy, and instead back in their hometowns. But, with the meal voucher program, participating locations can increase business during the financially-quiet season.
“It kind of gives the students a taste of what it would be like during the school year,” said Madison Wood, a manager at Momma Goldberg’s. “It gives them an idea of what the vibe is in here.
“I like to think of it as creating regulars.”
The Momma Goldberg’s staff, with the help of the vouchers, was able to do just that with one future Trojan.
“I think [the meal vouchers] were a good opportunity to come look at some of the different restaurants found in Troy that we could come to while we’re living here,” said Mabrie Weatherford, an incoming freshman.
According to Avery Floyd with Downtown Troy, this is just one of many partnerships made between the City of Troy, Pike County Chamber of Commerce and Troy University. She said the organizations always look forward to new ideas to bring the three communities together, and that having IMPACT scheduled lunch and shopping downtown is just one of those ways.
